Points made about the font cover:
* The mast head has been positioned in the upper left hand corner of the magazine and is one of the more dominant pieces of text on the page. This has been done by having it in a bright colour with black and white outlines.
From doing this the potential customers can familiarise themselves with the logo, which normally stays the same on most issue covers, however in some conditions this may change colour like those on Rolling Stones.
* The Special collectors circle is then situated below the masthead, which indicates that this is a more "special" and "niche" issue which most fans of NME would presumably want to purchase. Interestingly the word 'special' has been highlighted in the same colour as the title making the two link, i.e after looking at the title the next thing I look at is special.
* Next to the mast head on the upper right corner two quotes have been placed. These are obviously things that the various artists have said. In this case Liam and Noel Gallagher, (which is what this particular issue of NME emphasises on) and more of this information is in the magazine.
The two quotes contain colloquial language such as 'lad' which indicated the informality of this magazine.
Plus with the swearing 'stared' (****) out most people want to know more, like what has made him swear etc.
Both of this quotes are highly controversial, hence the reason for them being displayed on the cover. People want to know more about what they have to say. Although in most cases, all magazines in general appear to subtract these quotes out of context to make them sound more interesting than they usually are.
*The front cover of the magazine seems to be dominated by the cover picture which focuses around Oasis, more specifically Liam and Noel Gallagher. A mid shot has been used so the viewer can still see their faces and the emotions that they happen to be portraying, but also the clothing and arms, which contribute to the effect.
- Liam Gallagher appears to be pulling what looks like shouting face with his arm out and hand presented in a first shape which could represent the rebellious attitude the two hold. And by wearing the Manchester F.C shirt (which is where he came from) he can seen as a patriotic and a person who have stuck to their values etc.
- On the other hand Noel Gallagher seems to be wearing fairly normal clothes and has his brothers arm around him indicating that they are good friends he two appears to be wearing some sort of sports t shirt.
* The other main piece that is prominent on the page is OASIS which has been capitalised in black font and appears to be approximately the same size as 'NME'. By having the font in black it highlights itself to the reader almost instantly as other texts on the page are either in red or white, and is also helped by the rays of white light emitting from behind it.
*The banner above it just goes to show the ideologies and characteristics of OASIS by having the words "19 years of noise and confusion' this goes to show they are not like most other bands within this genre even though they are older than most other mainstream music artists.
This in itself is a common selling feature that is widely used within the music magazine industry, every artists is always trying to segregate themselves from other artists saying why they are individual, more better, more unique.
Whether it be Lady Gaga with fashion and costumes, or snow patrol (at the start) using social networking sites to advertise their gigs, Amy Winehouse divulging herself into the jazz genre or Catherine Jenkins a young opera singer but still up to date with tends and fashionable. Although they are very different all are using the same strategies.
* Below the main cover issue title is the years 1991-2010. To be in the mainstream music industry that long and to still be able to achieve cover issues just goes to show how good, successful and well liked OASIS are, but an indication is made that their is still more to come. By saying 'so far' illustrates that they are not done yet, they still have more to give.
*More details of whats inside is posted at the bottom of the cover including unseen photo's and decades of classic interviews inside. These are called hooks and plugs and are often marketing devices that are placed on the cover to make people buy them and want to know more.
* A bar code is then positioned in the bottom left hand corner along with another colloquial quote. In the box with the bar code is the price, barcode, and other prices in different currencies. By having it in different currencies just conveys how well known this magazine is known alone, and how successful it really is.
* Overall, OASIS have defeated the whole concept most mainstream media artists by the magazine using them, it will be sure to attract sales, as many what to know more about such controversial people in the industry that go against most of the 'rules' etc.
